Formed in 2006 with violinist Ioana Petcu Colan and pianist Michael McHale, Ensemble Avalon are quickly establishing a strong reputatuion both at home and abroad. Having joined Music Network in 2007, the trio have enjoyed several National tours, as well as concerts in the UK and Italy, to critical acclaim. September 2008 saw the release of the trios debut CD on the RTE Lyric fm label. the disc garnerd universal praise both at home and abroad. Julian Haylock wrote in the Strad 'Sunlit of the hihlights of my lstening year', while Classical Music Magazine wrote '..the Beethoven is in the front rank of modern versions on disc'. 2008 also saw the success of the inagural Ensemble Avalon Winter Chamber Music Festival, in association with Music for Wexford. Plans are already undrway for the 2009 festival, which will take place over the last weekend of November 2009. In the spring of 2009 ensemble avalon returned to the HUgh Lane Gallery Dublin for a 3 concert series, alongside didactic and coaching in Trinity college Dublin. In January 2009 Gerald teamed up with Irish pianist Cathal Breslin to further explore the piano/cello repertoire. The duo were invited to join the Music Network Artists roster and following a succesful Touring and Performance Award, will give a 7 date National Tour in September. Both Gerald and Cathal are alumni of the RCM, London, as well as individual recipents of the Fulbright scholarship. they were also both individual recipents of the prestigous National Concert Hall Rising Star recital platform.
